Welcome to CartSignal, a community-powered grocery price tracking service. By creating an account or using CartSignal — whether through our website at shoppingcartsignal.com or our mobile applications for Android and iOS — you agree to these Terms of Use. If you do not agree, please do not use the service.
1. About CartSignal
CartSignal lets shoppers compare real grocery prices submitted by community members across participating stores. We do not employ staff to verify or collect prices — all price data is contributed by registered users and may not reflect current in-store prices. CartSignal is available as a web application and as mobile apps distributed through the Google Play Store and Apple App Store.
2. Eligibility and Accounts
You must be at least 13 years old to create an account, and CartSignal is intended for residents of the United States. Please provide accurate information when registering. You are responsible for keeping your password secure and for all activity that occurs under your account. CartSignal is in beta and open to users nationwide; store and price coverage is still growing and varies by area.
3. Community Price Submissions
Prices you submit should reflect prices you personally observed at the listed store on or near the date recorded. Submitting false, fabricated, or deliberately misleading prices is prohibited. CartSignal may display your submissions to other users and reserves the right to remove submissions that appear inaccurate or otherwise violate these terms. Your personal email address is never displayed publicly.
4. Product Requests and Image Uploads
You may request that a product be added to the CartSignal database by submitting a product request. Requests may optionally include a photo taken with your device camera or selected from your photo library to help administrators identify the product. By submitting a photo, you confirm that you have the right to share it and grant CartSignal a non-exclusive, royalty-free license to use it for the purpose of identifying and adding the product. Photos submitted with product requests are used solely for admin review and are removed from our storage once the request is resolved.
5. Mobile App Permissions
The CartSignal mobile app may request the following device permissions:
- Camera — used to scan product barcodes and to take photos for product requests. The camera is only activated when you explicitly initiate a scan or photo.
- Location — used to find stores near you and display relevant local prices. Location is only accessed when you use location-based features and is not tracked in the background.
- Photo Library — used only when you choose to attach a photo from your library to a product request. CartSignal does not access your library without your explicit action.
You may deny or revoke any of these permissions at any time through your device settings. Denying a permission will disable the associated feature but will not otherwise affect your use of CartSignal.
6. Prohibited Conduct
You agree not to:
- Submit false or manipulated price data
- Use automated tools to scrape, spam, or abuse the service
- Attempt to reverse-engineer CartSignal's software or database
- Circumvent account restrictions, waitlist controls, or access limits
- Harass, impersonate, or harm other users or administrators
- Upload images containing illegal, offensive, or unrelated content
7. Price Accuracy Disclaimer
All prices shown on CartSignal are submitted by community members and may be outdated, incorrect, or no longer available in-store. CartSignal does not verify any price data. Always confirm prices at the store before making purchasing decisions. We are not responsible for any loss, inconvenience, or expense resulting from reliance on displayed prices.
8. Intellectual Property
The CartSignal name, logo, and application software are our property. Community-submitted price data is public factual information and does not constitute proprietary material of CartSignal or of the submitting user.
9. Account Suspension and Termination
We may suspend or permanently delete accounts that violate these terms, engage in abusive behavior, or otherwise harm the CartSignal community. We will provide notice where reasonably possible. You may delete your own account at any time from your Profile page.
10. Disclaimer of Warranties
CartSignal is provided “as is” and “as available” without warranties of any kind, express or implied, including but not limited to warranties of merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, or uninterrupted availability.
11. Limitation of Liability
To the maximum extent permitted by applicable law, CartSignal and its operators shall not be liable for any indirect, incidental, special, or consequential damages arising from your use of the service or reliance on any price information displayed.
12. Changes to These Terms
We may update these Terms of Use from time to time. Changes will be posted on this page with an updated effective date. Continued use of CartSignal after changes are posted constitutes your acceptance of the revised terms.
13. Governing Law
These terms are governed by the laws of the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania, United States, without regard to conflict-of-law provisions.
