About Wegmans
Wegmans was founded on January 30, 1916, by brothers John and Walter Wegman as the Rochester Fruit and Vegetable Company in Rochester, New York. In 1930, the brothers made national headlines when they opened a 20,000-square-foot store — gigantic by the standards of the day — featuring innovations like vaporized water spray to keep produce crisp and a cafeteria that seated 300. The chain has remained privately held and family-run for over a century. Danny Wegman currently serves as chairman, with his daughter Colleen Wegman as President and CEO since 2017. Today, Wegmans operates 114 stores across nine states — New York, Pennsylvania, New Jersey, Maryland, Massachusetts, Virginia, North Carolina, Connecticut, and Delaware — as well as the District of Columbia. The company has appeared on Fortune's "100 Best Companies to Work For" list every year since the list launched in 1998.
