About Sprouts Farmers Market
The Sprouts story begins in 1943, when Henry Boney borrowed $600 to buy a truck and open a street-corner fruit stand in San Diego, California. Over time the Boney family's stands evolved into Henry's Farmers Market, which they eventually sold to Wild Oats Markets in 1999 for $46 million. In 2002, Henry's son and grandson, Stan and Shon Boney, opened the first Sprouts Farmers Market in Chandler, Arizona, with a mission to make natural and organic foods affordable to everyday shoppers — not just those who could pay Whole Foods prices. In 2011, Henry's, Sun Harvest, and Sprouts came together again under Apollo Global Management and were all rebranded as Sprouts stores. Sprouts became a publicly traded company on NASDAQ in 2013. Today it operates over 440 stores across 24 states, with an emphasis on fresh produce, bulk foods, vitamins, and supplements.
