About Highland Park Market
Highland Park Market's story begins in 1886, when William White opened a small general store on Highland Street in Manchester, Connecticut, providing neighbors with a carefully selected stock of dry and fancy goods. The store continued operating on its original site for decades before Jack Devanney purchased it in 1958, preserving its community-focused traditions while modernizing the operation. In 1985, Jack's son Tim Devanney took over as president and expanded the chain to additional Connecticut communities. Today, the third generation of the Devanney family owns and operates three locations in Manchester, Glastonbury, and Farmington. Highland Park is known for its old-fashioned service philosophy — no self-checkout, cashiers who bag groceries and offer to carry them to your car — alongside highly trained in-house chefs, pastry chefs, bakers, and meat cutters producing fresh prepared foods, artisan baked goods, and custom-cut meats daily. The stores emphasize locally sourced Connecticut produce and products throughout.
