Caraluzzi's traces its roots to 1949, when Anthony Caraluzzi Sr., after 27 years refining his craft working for Gristede's in the Bronx, purchased the Bethel Fruit & Vegetable Market on Greenwood Avenue in Bethel, Connecticut. Working with his eldest son Lou, the family converted it into a full grocery store, adding meats, dairy, and other items. One by one, Anthony's four sons joined the business, and the store expanded steadily through the following decades. Now in its third generation of family ownership, Mark Caraluzzi serves as President and CEO, continuing the founder's guiding principle that knowing your customers personally leads to better decisions. Today Caraluzzi's operates four grocery store locations across the Greater Danbury area — Bethel, Georgetown (Wilton), Newtown, and Danbury — alongside a growing Caraluzzi's Wine & Spirits division. The company was voted the 4th favorite regional grocer in Connecticut in 2022.
