About CTown Supermarkets

C-Town Supermarkets was established in 1975 by Krasdale Foods, a family-owned wholesale grocery distributor founded in 1908. The banner originally launched as "K-Town" — the K standing for Charles Krasne, son of the founder — but faced a trademark challenge from Kmart Corporation over the similarity, prompting a quick rename to C-Town. C-Town is a chain of independently owned and operated supermarkets, using economies of scale so its small member stores can pool resources for purchasing and advertising. The chain tends to open stores in locations that suburban chains have abandoned, serving urban neighborhoods with a customer base that is largely pedestrian-focused. Today there are approximately 200 stores across Connecticut, Massachusetts, New Jersey, New York, and Pennsylvania, making it the fifth-largest food retailer in the New York City metropolitan area
