About Adams Fairacre Farms
In 1919, Ralph and Mary Adams bought 50 acres of farmland on Dutchess Turnpike in Poughkeepsie, NY, and began selling fresh produce to area retailers from a farmstand. By 1933 they had four children and a successful farmstand, and Adams Fairacre Farms was born. The product range grew organically from there — customers started asking for cheese, meats, and deli items, and because the family had farm supplies on hand, people also began requesting fertilizer and plants, which led to the addition of a garden center. The Poughkeepsie location itself literally grew from a small farmstand into a barn, then into a full supermarket — making it the cornerstone location today. What sets it apart It's part grocery store, part garden center, part specialty market — every location has a dedicated Nursery, Garden Center, Gift Shop, and Sweet Shop, alongside standard grocery departments. A reviewer called it "the only place to buy groceries for conscious eaters," and the garden centers have real industry credibility — ranked 10th in Nursery Retailer magazine's list of the nation's top 100 independent garden centers.
